Jimmy's Big Bee Rescue Jimmy has been as busy as a bee filming the latest scenes for a new series commissioned for Channel 4. Jimmy's Big Bee Rescue is a

two-part documentary following Jimmy over the course of a year as he tries to increase the number of bees and related insects. One in 10 of Europe’s wild bees is

facing extinction and a third of Britain’s species have fallen in numbers over the last 40 years. But Jimmy will try to show that the decline is not inevitable. Jimmy has a life-long passion for

insects and studied for a PhD in entomology before becoming a farmer and TV presenter. With the help of insect enthusiasts

and scientists while focusing on areas around Peterborough, he has been staging incredible experiments and eye- catching events to highlight ways this crucial insect population can be revived. In the series Jimmy demonstrates

how farmers, businesses and government can all help to solve the problem. And he also shows viewers at home how to play a part too. Jimmy says, “Since I was a kid, bees have declined so much one species

has even become extinct. We need to do everything we can to reverse this trend, because they are more vital to our lives than we realise.” Produced by Red Sky Productions

and part-funded by Screen Scotland, the first episode was due to air on Channel 4 on August 29.

Jimmy’s Forest We were delighted to see Jimmy’s Forest, which first aired in 2012, returning to TV screens over the summer. Te documentary, presented by

Jimmy, focused on the transformation of a forest spreading across four episodes – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. During the series, Jimmy lived in a

tree house equipped with walkways, zip lines and even a science lab. In ‘Spring’, Jimmy found out how to

get a drink straight from a tree, got to grips with a woodpecker, squabbled with squirrels and made himself roadkill badger ham. ‘Summer’ saw Jimmy determined to

see the badgers in the large sett near his tree house. He also constructed super-sized fly paper, joined a ferreter at work and entertained druids.

heavy snowfall, the forest was looking magical. Jimmy tracked animal and bird footprints, found out how insects survive the winter, and watched 80,000 rooks fly to their roost. Jimmy says, “I really wanted to have

an adventure, watch the seasons and really get under the skin of what our woodlands mean to us.”
