Don’t go into hibernation this autumn – you’ll miss out on all the fun here at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park!

A

ſt er welcoming back everyone this summer following lockdown, we’ve

not stopped - and now it’s already time to prepare our animals for autumn and get our new arrivals settled. We’ve really enjoyed seeing

you all again and a huge thankyou to everyone for their support and following our new one-way system, social distancing and hygiene measures, in place to keep you healthy and safe. Life never stops at the farm and

wildlife park, and we’ve got lots of exciting news to bring you… We’ve built a new enclosure for

Terry the tegu, our RSPCA-rescued lizard, to make his days as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Terry, an Argentine black and

white tegu, came to live at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park aſt er being saved from cruel people who used him as bait for fi ghting dogs. He

lost his tail as a result and is now losing his eyesight due to cataracts. “We’ve built a new enclosure

just for him,” explains General Manager Stevie Sheppard. “Terry was very poorly treated before he got here. We now just want to make his environment as easy, comfortable and enjoyable as possible. He deserves nothing but the best.” Our South American rhea, Dexter,

is enjoying the company of his new mate, Harriet, who moved in aſt er outgrowing her owner’s garden. “T ey have been getting on really

well. Dexter’s turned into a right fl irt. He has found the love of his life, but I think she’s waiting for him to make the fi rst move. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before there’s the patter of tiny feet.” And our rare breed Golden

Guernsey goat, Maggie, fi nally gave birth to twins – a boy and girl.

Autumn antics

“T ey are absolutely beautiful,” says Stevie. “One of them had an issue with suckling but they’re both doing really well now. T ey are the cutest babies you will have ever seen.” Another new resident is our

gorgeous baby roe deer, Fern the fawn, who has been hand-reared by Deputy Head Ranger Tom Chapman aſt er she was brought to us because her mother was thought to have died aſt er being hit by a vehicle. “Roe deers are the only non-

marsupial mammal to store fertilised embryos before giving birth some time later,” explains Stevie. “Fern has been living with our goats for now and we are working on a rehabilitation plan for her.”

Come and meet all our new arrivals – they can’t wait to see you!
