Lexington, KY— Jennifer S. Kelly, author of Sir Barton and the Making of the Triple Crown, an- nounces a contract with the University Press of Kentucky (UPK) for Foxes of Belair (tentative title), the first book dedicated to the lives and ca- reers of horse racing’s second and third Triple Crown winners, Gallant Fox and Omaha. Building on their collaboration for Sir Barton,
the first book to tell the complete story of Amer- ica’s first Triple Crown winner, UPK will release Foxes as part of their Horses in History imprint. This series of books provides an in-depth explo- ration of significant events and figures within the sport of horse racing. Kelly’s newest project will focus on William Woodward’s two Triple Crown champions and the era where Sir Barton’s pioneer- ing series of wins continues its evolution into one of the sport’s elite accomplishments. Previous books on the thirteen Triple Crown winners tell their stories in a chapter; this book will tell the story of America’s second and third Triple Crown winners in full for the first time, exploring the ac- complishments of these two champions and their breeder-owner William Woodward and the transi- tion into modern horse racing. historian endeavors to preserve the history of the Triple Crown and the stories of the horses that have won racing’s ultimate prize. “I look forward to bringing Gallant Fox and Omaha to life for modern horse racing fans that know their names, but may not know how this father-son duo made history over and over again. From the only Triple Crown winner to sire another to the only Triple Crown winner to race overseas, Foxes of Belair will cover the milestones that make these two horses immortals beyond their classic wins,” says Kelly.
