The Potting Shed’s top rewilding tips
• Leave areas in your garden as natural habitats, such as hedges and ponds, or why not create a hedgehog bunker or bug garden?
• Hedges, trees and climbing plants make good shelters for animals and insects, while a bird box will also draw wildlife.
• Maintain a source of clean water for wildlife - a water butt to collect rainwater is a great way to achieve this.
• Try to avoid using pesticides in your garden and fi nd non-toxic alternatives.
• Buckthorn bushes are great for Brimstone butterflies and hedge garlic will encourage Orange Tip butterflies.
• To attract birds, scatter birdseed and plant berry bushes or fruit trees to provide a food source throughout the year.
• Bees and other insects love nectar-rich plants such as Lavender, Cosmos or Geraniums – and Ivy in the autumn.
