Surviving lockdown

It’s been a struggle for survival for zoos and wildlife parks across the country during lockdown. Tanks to our dedicated team and your support, we are ready to share the good life with you again!

I

t was eerily quiet at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park during lockdown.

No excited chatter of families and

schoolchildren coming through the gates…no buzz in our restaurant and tea rooms…no joyous celebrations of couples getting hitched…no customers indulging in some retail therapy at our onsite stores. Te very thing that gives this place

its heart and soul – the people – was absent for what felt like for ever during lockdown, and our team and animals have really missed you! We appreciate that this has been

an extremely challenging time for everyone and hope that you have been staying safe and keeping well. A huge thankyou to everyone who has kindly donated over the last few

months to help our dedicated and hard-working team look aſter our amazing animals behind the scenes and support our conservation work. With more than 300 animals to feed

and look aſter, while having to remain closed to visitors, it’s been really tough - as it has been for so many. But we’ve been doing our utmost

to protect our precious family, catch up on essential works to manage their environment – including improving enclosures and habitats for our racoons, capybaras and tapirs - and prepare for welcoming you back in a safe and careful way. Fortunately, our farm shop has been

allowed to continue serving customers during lockdown, offering a click-and- collect service for our Essentials Box, including award-winning sausages,

rare breed bacon, fruit and veg, free- range eggs and more. And we were delighted to welcome

Te Potting Shed, a new garden centre offering quality plants and garden furniture, which opened onsite to customers in May. However, with the farm, wildlife

park, restaurant and tea rooms, and wedding facilities all having to remain closed during the height of the pandemic, the income we rely on to keep everything ticking over and fund our vital work has not been forthcoming. At Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife

Park, we’re incredibly proud of our conservation work. We’re a member of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST), whose mission is to ensure we do not lose the diversity of our native breeds.
