Business News New head for UTC Sheffield
A new Principal has been appointed at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. Jessica Stevenson (pictured) has 19 years’ experience
in education and is currently Director of Inclusion at Mercia Learning Trust in Sheffield. Nick Crew, Executive Principal, The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust, said: “Jessica has a strong track record
in education and is well respected within the city. We are looking forward to working with her.” Jessica said: “I am excited to join a trailblazing
technical school that is ensuring students get the academic and technical skills that universities and employers need. I can't wait to start as Principal and build on the fantastic work that has been achieved so far.” The UTC – which is Ofsted graded ‘good’ - is a
technical school for 13 to 19-year-olds located on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on Old Hall Road, Attercliffe Common. The UTC opened in September 2016 and is part of
The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust. Students complete A-Levels alongside technical qualifications in computing or health sciences or sport science. The technical qualifications are equivalent to
between one and three A-Levels, and involve working on employer-led projects and developing skills related to the subject specialism as well as team working and problem solving skills. The £10m UTC is equipped with cutting edge industry standard facilities. UTCs are Government-funded technical schools that
have been established to provide technical learning opportunities in partnership with employers and universities. They provide academic and technical qualifications to match the skills needs of regional employers, supporting economic growth and employment. Students can join the UTC in year 9 or in year 12
and the UTC recruits from across Sheffield City Region.
A friendly visit to Rotherham charity
Members of the Office Friendly team recently paid a visit to a local Rotherham charity, Rush House, to see how the business can offer further support to its patrons. Rush House is a local independent charity formed over 30 years ago that works primarily with young people aged 16-25 in the Rotherham area. The charity also provides supported accommodation to care leavers and the homeless, as well as providing residence for up to 26 young people at any one time. Office Friendly have been
working with Rush House over the past year to help support a range of different initiatives, including funding training for the charity’s eight front line staff. The funding will also support the development and publication of a mental health resource booklet, containing information and contact details for local services, for young people using Rush House services. During the visit, Office Friendly
found out how Rush House supports these young people to develop the skills they need to successfully manage a tenancy of their own.
