The previous decor of the
room was very monochromatic and lacked warmth, especially with its north facing aspect.

DA Member firm Stuart Yates Décor recently completed another beautiful repaint and featured wallpapering to create a unique room. Stuart tells us the story...
Winning wallpaper makes its Mark
I had booked in one of my previous client’s to redecorate their lounge / music room. When I called around to discuss their plan, they picked out a unique print of a Zorro movie as their key piece in the room. When we looked at the feature wall, I showed them the Dulux competition wallpaper I had designed by Graham and Brown, and they loved the match. Not wanting the rest of the room in a similar shade we decided on the greens and blues from the Dulux Colour of the Year 2020 Palette. While the room had been redecorated over the years, there was still a
good bit of work required in repairs and preparation. One area that needed attention was the original 1850's coving over the three large windows. The room required filling to cracks and getting back to the clean lines to match in with the rest of the ornate coving.
The room has three large windows, but in the winter I find my
Festool light invaluable in illuminating the space so I can see everything. It really helps to make sure I can appraise the whole space, looking for surface imperfections and identifying where there are cracks that need attention before painting. The first step was stripping back the original wallpaper and preparing
the walls, filling any cracks and holes and then smoothing with a Festool sander with dust extraction. After filling and repairing the coving, the room was ready for the repaint to begin. I started with the repaint of the ceiling in Dulux Trade Tranquil Dawn
Vinyl Matt, followed by the walls. The client had also decided on the repaint of the skirting and internal door from white to the same shade, and I did this with Quick Dry Satin, also in Tranquil Dawn.
The room was generally in a good state of repair, but some of the cornice above the windows require some filling work.
Stuart’s Festool dustless sander made light work of preparing the walls prior to wallpapering.
