A new year brings so many new opportunities. As we move on from the festive period and return to normal, we can return to maintaining our listed buildings refreshed, relaxed and ready to handle whatever challenges the year throws at us.
Appropriately for the cold weather, this issue includes a feature on windows which will be of interest to anyone who has discovered an unwelcome draft over the winter. Other pieces on lime mortar and stone should also help you to keep the heat in.

As we move into the new year, the next big step for our political campaign will be relaunching the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Listed Properties with an increased number of MPs and a fresh agenda for 2020. To make sure that happens, we are asking all members write to their MP asking them to join. The APPG is how we put pressure on government, and it’s the only way we can create real change on VAT and planning issues.
For those who are presently struggling with high VAT rates and the wider cost of ownership, this issue includes pieces from our expert advisers about the existing VAT relief that owners can benefit from, and on security measures that can potentially reduce insurance premiums.
The new year also brings around the annual Listed Property Show at Olympia on the 8th and 9th of February. This year looks set to push the bar even higher with our team of conservation officers on hand to advise you on any hypothetical plans you may have. Additionally nearly every possible trade is represented at the show, all there to offer free unbiased advice. Complimentary tickets have been sent with this issue, and we look forward to seeing you there.
