equipment business. With the way the economy is in the Taber region where the majority of Class Hot Shot’s business is through Canadian Natural Resources Limited, when they are less active, Classic Hot Shot has to look else- where to find work. A salesman out of Calgary was able to net some solid connections,
which included a China business in hauling modules. “It was generally a project, especially for us being so far south, we
wouldn’t have got,”said Darcy Firth, logistics manager with Classic Hot Shot, who attended a joint meeting with the Chinese business man who spent months at a time in Canada to help secure the contract. “Having big equipment come out of B.C. can be a nightmare. It’s not set up like Alberta is with the transporting of large items. You have the mountains, the winding roads, and everything is above ground there like Telus lines, hydro lines and they don’t have high/low quarters like Alberta has,” said Firth, adding Classic Hot Shot was still up to the task. Classic Hot shot would eventually end up starting their hauling agree- ment they secured in Stewart, B.C., the most northerly ice-free port in Canada according to Firth, as the best route to go. It was an attention to detail Firth added he was not as accustomed to that he saw previously with some of their North American clients.

“The Chinese are very diligent. They are some of the nicest people we
have ever worked with, but even if it was questions that seemed like we dealt with every day to us that seemed like simple business as usual, they wanted exact planned break downs of step by step of everything we were going to do right down to our permits,” said Firth. “They want- ed to overlook everything. I get it, they don’t want any bad press if something went wrong in our end. They wanted to make sure every- thing went off without a hitch. I get it, a lot of this stuff, you are dealing with $500,0000 pieces of equipment that we have got on. It probably took a year from when we started the project to the time everything was set in motion and we were just waiting for the boat to show up.” Classic Hot Shot would end up hauling two boats worth of equip- ment, with the first hauling starting in the first weekend of May, with
