Fairtrade celebrates 25th birthday

This October Fairtrade kicks off its 25th birthday celebrations with a long weekend of parties, activities and events from Friday 4th-Monday 7th, which will see the public show their ongoing support for the 1.6 million farmers and workers behind the UK’s most visible ethical label. It was back in 1994

the fi rst few Fairtrade Mark certifi ed products were launched by Cafédirect, Clipper Tea, Green & Black’s and Percol Coffee. The Fairtrade Foundation thanks the public for fi ghting for the rights of vulnerable people who are

Bake for Breast Cancer Awareness Month October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international health campaign organised by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness and to raise funds for research. KitchenAid has been a partner of Breast Cancer Haven for 19 years and is proud to have raised more than £280,000. For this year’s campaign £50 from every Raspberry Ice Artisan 4.8l stand mixer (RRP £619) sold in the UK goes to the charity. When KitchenAid launched the iconic stand mixer 100 years ago in 1919 it was only available in white. In 1955, Sunny Yellow, Island Green, Petal Pink and Satin Chrome were introduced. The brand’s joy of colour was an instant hit and it’s kept on giving ever since, including an eye-catching pink shade Raspberry Ice (left), the colour synonymous with breast cancer. • Visit kitchenaid.co.uk

cocktail created especially for the evening by For Cocktail Sake’s Tammy Jackson with Kentish lavender and Kentish gin married together to produce a tantalising insight into the amazing quality of the offering ahead. Guests were hard pushed to choose their favourite course, with canapes from award-winning Will Devlin from The Small Holding, followed by Rob Taylor from The Compasses at Crundale wowing with pastrami cured halibut. Standards were kept high by Fabio Vinciguerra, executive head chef from Hush Heath’s own restaurant group, who excelled with a scallop and mango tartare, and Bobby Brown, of Bank House Wine Bar and Kitchen in Chislehurst, stepping up next with pork belly, langoustines and sweetcorn fritters, which saw all the chefs pulling together in the kitchen to get the food out swiftly to the 100-plus guests. Between courses, guests were bidding on auction prizes including a foraging day with Will Devlin at The Small Holding, a meal cooked in the winning bidder’s own home by Scott Goss and an intimate baking course with friends conducted by The Great British Bake Off’s Jane Beedle. Guests fi nished the evening with Scott Goss of Tonbridge-based Verdigris providing a delicious crab dish and Robert Marshall, formerly of Tunbridge Wells’ The Warren, cooking up a storm with beef, beer and onions. All that was left was for Jamie Tandoh of the Tunbridge Wells Bicycle Bakery to provide the fi nale – a cherry shaped chocolate dessert, which was the most photographed dish of the night! • Visit treeofhope.org.uk
