Parents get behind Sencio Community Leisure’s fundraiser
Staff from Sencio Community Leisure, which includes Swanley’s White Oak Leisure, have undertaken a challenge in aid of Cystic Fibrosis, the not-for-profi t leisure operator’s nominated charity of the year. The team ran from Sevenoaks Leisure Centre to Edenbridge Leisure Centre (9.4 miles), and then tackled a gruelling uphill cycle from Edenbridge Leisure Centre to White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley (17 miles), where they were joined by colleagues who each swam 46 lengths – the distance (three miles) between White Oak and Lullingstone Park Golf Course. Three young lives a week are
currently lost to cystic fi brosis and a half of sufferers currently die before their 42nd birthday. SCL Wellness supervisor James
Arnold suggested the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as Sencio’s charity of the year after speaking to former colleague Chris Clark, whose seven-year-old son, James, suffers from the condition.
signifi cant saving – a six-hour stay now costing £6.30 will cost only £2 from 1st October (the fi rst Sunday being 6th October). One-hour parking will still be available at the current rate of £1.60 (or £1.30 using the Ringo app). Karen Pengelly, town centre manager at Royal Tunbridge Wells Together, said: “Royal Tunbridge Wells is a fabulous town to visit and explore. Whether it’s a special occasion Sunday
lunch, a browse around some fantastic shops or a matinee at one of our theatres, there are tons of reasons to visit. This is just the fi rst of many steps that we will be taking to ensure that we promote and support the town centre and all the businesses who have come together to create the Business Improvement District.” The offer will be available in six of the largest town centre car parks: Meadow Road, Linden Park, Major York’s Road, Great Hall Arcade, Crescent Road and Royal Victoria Place. • Visit

A weekend of books,
music, comedy & more Taking place from 4th-6th October, the inaugural Penshurst Festival promises to be a wonderful weekend of events, talks, music, food and poetry which, it’s hoped, will become an annual event. This year’s theme will be Crossing Boundaries
and features writers and musicians who have crossed both physical and artistic boundaries in their work. The line-up includes, among others: Opening party with Daisy Goodwin, Jazz Supper (two-course supper and a performance of When Peggy Met Ella by Ronnie Scott’s pianist and two leading UK jazz vocalists), and Loyd Grossman discussing “Five Books That Changed My Life”. • For a full programme of events, times and ticket prices, visit
