BUSINESS IS STILL BLOOMING FOR ACANTHUS


Ten years have flown by since Maggie Halsall set up her independent human resources consultancy, Acanthus Management Limited. The firm, which provides a


commercially focused outsourced HR service has made a name for itself offering support in a practical, relevant and cost-effective format to businesses both locally and nationally. To celebrate its landmark


anniversary the firm hosted a garden party, including a traditional afternoon tea in an English country garden in Northamptonshire. Maggie said: “A number of


people have supported me in the business right from day one, and it was only appropriate that we should celebrate this milestone together. The past few years have been incredibly busy with the business growing at such a rate. As in previous years there have been new clients coming on board, mainly through personal recommendations from existing clients, but the past 12 months have exceeded even my expectations. “I wanted my guests to come


and have some down-time, enjoy the garden and make new friends - but most of all I wanted us all to indulge in some tea and cake!”

A NEW CHAPTER FOR GREEN CROSS


It has been an exciting year at Green Cross Training, marking the company’s 25th anniversary with moving premises and the launch of a new training suite. In February, the first aid training company made the business


decision to move from their premises in Sherington to a more central location in Milton Keynes Business Centre, Linford Wood. Managing director Ayrtam Ryall said: “It was recognised that being


located in the centre of the city would raise the company’s profile and help create awareness of the range of products and services available.” The company took the opportunity to open the Benedetti Training


Suite at MK Business Centre. From this location they run a host of open courses for the public including Ofqual regulated First Aid courses, featuring their new Combined First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid course, MHFA England First Aider course, Fire Marshal training, HACCP and IOSH Managing Safely. They will also be hosting workshops for both local businesses and


the wider community and taking their affordable training into the business community including their ‘whole school training solution’. The training suite is also being used to host free themed networking


events. On 4 December there will be a free event aimed at mental health awareness entitled Stress in the Workplace.

Ensafe is turning 25 next year and with age comes growth - therefore it comes as no surprise the company is experiencing a period of exponential growth with new regional offices opening and several new staff being recruited to support its increased operational capacity. Many of its departments have


grown in size, resources and service output, including its health and safety department which is now offering new products and services and has achieved several industry recognised accreditations, including Environmental Management ISO 14001 and SafePQQ verification. Health and safety manager Allan


Hopper said: “Health and safety forms an integral part of our business. “We provide an array of health


and safety services to our clients with many calling upon Ensafe to complete their fire risk assessments


and their legal and compliance audits. In addition to this we’re increasingly visiting sites to conduct DSE and COSHH assessments for clients that need to examine the risk of hazardous substances in the workplace. “We also act as a consultancy


and with over 20 years’ experience we have expert knowledge in health and safety. This allows us to offer an extensive range of bespoke health and safety consultancy services that are customised to suit each individual client.”

management and gardening – you make a careful selection, make sure they are in the right place, look after them well, prune when necessary and watch them grow. It’s why I thought that the only place to celebrate my 10th anniversary, was in one of my favourite gardens.”
