TRAINING WITH TOWERGATE
Towergate Insurance Brokers are offering fellow Chamber members a free, structured, one-day IOSH training course. Interested companies must
have a minimum of five employees and be able to commit to a six-hour session. Up to 12 delegates can be
accommodated in each session and both the training and refreshments are free of charge. The five-module course is aimed at those who have operational or strategic accountability for an organisation responsible for determining and implementing effective safety and health management and monitoring its success. Towergate’s area sales
director Marc Taylor said: “Delegates who complete this course will develop an improved understanding of the moral, legal and business case for adopting a proactive approach to health & safety and will learn essential skills in effective risk management. “We deliver an end-to-end
proposition, pre-loss risk management, risk transfer and post loss recovery services, and will be by your side every step of the way. “We like to think of
ourselves as a local community broker and this is a great opportunity for us to meet our local business neighbours.”

Adapt Global Group can help you to combat workplace hazards
Office solutions company Adapt Global Group has developed new Safe Sense anti-pinch technology to combat workplace hazards. Pinch points are areas of potential safety
‘HEIGHT
ADJUSTABLE DESKS HAVE SOARED IN
POPULARITY IN RECENT YEARS’
hazards caused between moving worksurfaces of height adjustable desks and also static items placed next to them, creating risks such as trapped fingers and hands. Garry McKay, adapt global group managing director
said: “Height adjustable desks have soared in popularity in recent years as employers seek to combat the risks to their employees caused by prolonged sitting. What manufacturers have not considered, up to this point, are the potential dangers caused by the products that are designed to offer a solution to workplace injuries and discomfort. Whenever we introduce multiple moving surfaces into a static environment, we exponentially increase the risk of
serious injury to our most valuable
resource – our people.” Some manufacturers now include
collision detection on their height adjustable desks, which reduces the amount of damage
caused by the worksurface colliding with static objects.
However, Safe Sense is a safety solution that protects both equipment and, more importantly, the user. Safe Sense technology prevents the movement of
the worksurface when any body part is in the proximity of a pinch point. It also has built in collision detection. When the work surface is moving and this field is interrupted by a grounded object, Safe Sense stops the movement, preventing any harm.

BUSINESS SCHOOL SCORES BSIS AWARD
The University of Bedfordshire Business School is one of two schools in the country to receive the Business School Impact System (BSIS) award, joining only 37 other BSIS recognised institutions worldwide. The school was formally presented with the BSIS award at the European
Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) annual conference at NOVA School of Business and Economics. At the award ceremony, professor Debra Leighton accepted the plaque from Professor Eric Cornwell (director general and CEO, EFMD) and Professor Michel Kalika (co-director and senior adviser, BSIS for FNEGE and EFMD) which was conferred ‘for successful completion of the BSIS process and ongoing commitment to creating and increasing impact’. Debra said: As one of only two business schools from the UK to be
awarded BSIS at the ceremony, I am so proud that the school has achieved BSIS recognition ahead of any other business school in the UK. “I am also delighted to have been invited to become a BSIS assessor for
the EFMD and look forward to sharing our experience across the globe.” Professor Michel Kalika said: “We have been impressed by the fact that
the school has a strong positioning as a regional business school deeply embedded in its impact zone, by the societal responsibility regarding the demographic characteristics of its territory and by the exceptional character of the local and national network.”
