news Pulford art exhibition Brooklands Classic Car Show and Jumble
Former Head of Collections, John Pulford, has entranced members for many years with his Brooklands cartoon Christmas cards which feature cunningly disguised members of staff and volunteers, usually as reindeers! His artistic talents don’t stop there, however, as he is also a talented artist in his own right and there is an upcoming exhibition of his work in September. The exhibition ‘From the Banks of the Thames to Other Places’ runs at the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton- on-Thames from 18-
29 September. It
includes landscapes from familiar local scenes along the Thames and Wey, to Italy, Spain and the Mediterranean. The oil paintings, watercolours and drawings in this exhibition have all been progressed from studies made on the spot by the artist. Many of the original paintings published as greetings cards will be in the exhibition.

The 2020 Brooklands Members’ Jersey Tour will run from 4-8 June. It takes in the Jersey International Motoring Festival, the largest motoring event in the Channel Islands. There is also the option of taking part in a hillclimb and sprint for pre-1933 cars and motorcycles built before 1984.
Entry for the 2020 Jersey Tour costs £549 per person and includes ferry journeys, four nights B&B in the Hotel de France, entry to the car display area and detailed road book. Contact Angela Hume on:

Members’ access to the first floor facilities, including the Members’ Bar. This work will be undertaken during the winter and necessitates alterations to the reception area of the Clubhouse to accommodate the lift. Inevitably, this will lead to further refurbishment for the foyer area itself and this is the focus of our fundraising for 2019-20, principally with the Winter Draw. Tickets will be arriving on your door mat soon and we invite you to take part in the prize draw with £1000 cash for the winner. There will be two runner-up prizes of £500 and £250 respectively. We hope to raise over £10,000 towards the project, so please give generously. You will receive two books of tickets, but if you do not wish to enter the draw itself or would like to make an additional donation then you can do so by returning the form at the bottom of the letter that you will receive.
The closing date for entries is 9 December and the draw takes place at the Christmas lunch on the 15 December. Any entries received after that date will be treated as donations to the project. Good luck!
Tim Morris 6 BROOKLANDS BULLETIN | SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER 2019
If the Paddock had a roof, it would have been blown off by Gentleman Tim and His Contenders as they blasted out to an appreciative Brooklands audience sitting on hay bales eating burgers, sipping beer or licking ice cream. Some even danced in the afternoon heat at this year’s Classic Car Show and Jumble. There was a large increase in Members bringing their classics and the show is designed to reflect the interests of the Members, hence the variety of classics and the large number of new Members who joined up on the day itself. The jumble was spread throughout the Motoring Village and included a vast array of item for sale.
Our judges had an unenviable task of choosing their top three cars and bikes in each category. A special mention goes to the TR Register of Glamorgan who had a great day here as part of their weekend away.
The main trophy stays in the members Bar and this year it was won by Chris Cherrington with his immaculate 1979 Triumph Dolomite Sprint. A big thank you to all the Members marshals, judges and the Museum team who helped put the show on the road.
