As another school year ends, it’s time to reflect on everything we’ve achieved since September 2018. We welcomed more than 13,700 children and 3000 adults as part of organised school visits. Primary school children took part in activities such as Guided Tours, Science Shows, Workshops, Self-led Trails and Meet an Aviation Hero. Our secondary school age visitors took part in Engineering Taster Days, Snap Shots of History, It’s an Ingenious World tours and Inside Track: To a Career in STEM, as well as exploring the Aircraft Factory and other exhibitions.
A successful new activity run for the first time was Inside Track: To a Career in STEM. During this conference style learning day women guests currently working as scientists and engineers help inspire students by delivering talks about their
personal stories and career paths. This activity was sponsored by NHLF and the ISTAT foundation and is run in partnership with the Women’s Engineering Society. Although this activity was developed to be delivered to school groups during the May half-term, we ran a day for family audiences. It was very inspiring to see mothers and daughters exploring careers in engineering and science together. For the A Level curriculum, our new
Learning volunteer Tim Steel developed a workshop to engage students sitting Business and Economics. Focusing on Concorde as a business case, participants work on a presentation to argue in favour or against the Concorde project. Finally, the Strong Women In Science event, run during the May half-term, was extremely successful. The event was
Director’s message We have had a fresh look for Brooklands Museum in lots of ways over the past couple of months. From the refreshed logo to the new marketing campaign, the introductory film to help visitors understand the Brooklands story and the Brooklands Fete which has been held every day in August. Families have been enjoying the range of games and activities, and everyone is enjoying the ice creams and cream teas. Our temporary ‘lawn’ is giving people space to relax and play, while the giant deckchair has made many appearances on Facebook and Instagram. All of these changes are part of trying to make sure that even more people discover
Brooklands Museum and the stories of what happened on this site. The Museum has sometimes been called a ‘best kept secret’ and the new logo and marketing campaign are designed to be eye-catching and make sure that our advertising and signage no longer blends into the background. You may have seen them on trains, railway stations and the sides of buses during July and August. Please do follow the Museum on social media and help spread the word. There are some great events at the Museum in September and October, so please make use of your membership and we look forward to seeing you here soon. Tamalie Newbery

fully booked with more than 200 people watching the shows and 150 taking part in a workshop. Many participating families enquired about the possibility of the museum running similar events in the future. We are currently looking to recruit
