Paddle School Maintains High Standards in Sports and Healthy Living

Continued from cover... We are delighted to announce that we, Paddle School, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year. This is the second year running that we have been awarded the Gold Mark Award. At Paddle, we pride ourselves on providing a strong active, outdoor, healthy lifestyle ethos to support our pupils achieve through having a strong focus on health and wellbeing.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our pupils have taken part in nineteen local inter-school competitions this year, including the Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon and the Cumbrian Cross Country Finals. Some of our pupils have had the opportunity to be inspired by elite marathon runner Lily Partridge by taking part in a 'Q and A' session with her. In addition, our whole school took part in a Duathlon (bike and run) on our school grounds facilitated by Chris Wright from Chance Camp.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to:

Miss Thelen for leading PE across school and providing fantastic coaching, competition and healthy lifestyle options for our children; Year 5 Sport's Leaders for setting up lunchtime activities; Miss Lawler for leading our outdoor learning; Mrs Watkins for leading Forest Schools throughout school; Mrs Page for Year 1 'Wednesday in the Woods' and the parents who support her; Hayley and Lorraine for cooking tasty and healthy meals; The School Council for undertaking a school's meal audit; Parents for using Phunky Foods website to cook healthy meals; Mrs Steel (Chair of Governors) for training 18 staff in Youth Mental Health First Aid; Mrs Hampson for providing high quality PE and Dance throughout school; The whole Paddle Family for supporting healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

We look forward to applying once again in 2020! To find out more about Eaglesfield Paddle CE Primary Academy please call 01900 823188
