MOBILITY CHARITY STILL RIDING HIGH 25 YEARS ON

A multi-award winning charity which has been honoured by the Queen is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Daventry Area Community

Transport (DACT) provides a one- stop shop for all things associated with a lack of transport or mobility. The charity and its team of 170

volunteers are a lifeline to thousands of vulnerable people living in Daventry and the surrounding 78 villages, many of whom would be completely isolated without DACT’s door-to- door services. The innovative organisation

runs a volunteer car scheme, a dial-a-ride scheme, the DACT Days Out project, DACT pitstop which services and repairs mobility equipment, and the DACT Mobility Shop. Assistant manager Phil Houston

said: “We could not carry out any of our services without the commitment of our dedicated volunteers. “This is an exciting year for us

NEW DEPARTMENT AS ACORN GROWS

Acorn has launched a new health and safety (H&S) department to complement the existing asbestos services that it offers. The department is headed by

John Crockett (IMaPS, SIIRSM RSP, ACIOB), a H&S specialist who has been helping clients with everyday health and safety requirements for years. The services that Acorn now

completed building the extension to our DACT Mobility Shop. The extension allows us to sell a wider range of new and recycled mobility products and was officially opened by Earl Spencer in March. “We are always looking to the

future and part of our strategy is to become as financially self- reliant as possible due to the ever- diminishing statutory grants and

trust funding. Our Mobility Shop extension forms part of this strategy.” In 2017 the charity received The

Queens Award for Voluntary Service presented by Mr David E Laing MA RIBA, HM Lord- Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, who is also DACT’s honorary president.

offer cover all elements of H&S including fire risk assessments, retained consultant, risk assessments and plans of work and also all elements of complying with CDM requirements as client, designer and principal contractor. John said: “It’s great to be able

to offer this service. I’m looking forward to working with the team to help our clients.” Director Ian Stone added: “H&S

is something our clients have been asking for help with for some time. It’s been a tough process finding someone that fits with our core values and Acorn’s overall ethos. “It’s really exciting to now be

able to help remove clients’ headaches from asbestos and health and safety.”
