Cave Hike All Ages

Join us for a mile-long round trip hike through the woods as we discuss the seasonal changes happening as we travel to the only cave in the Chicagoland region. Learn why this cave is so special including geological findings and hear the legend behind its name - Cave of the Spirit. All participants must be registered, and adults must accompany their children.

Bug Fest All Ages

Join us for a day full of fun and bugs! This annual FREE event has you searching for bugs from Lippold Park to Red Oak and all the stops along the way. A free shuttle takes you to and from the event if you park at Schneider School. Buggy presentations, visiting bug enthusiasts and much more await you at this year’s Bug Fest! No registration required. Snacks, beverages, and other attractions will be available for a small fee. Additional parking is available at Schneider School. Small buses and vans will be available to shuttle you to the event starting at 9:30 am and will end at 2 pm. Handicapped parking and shuttle drop off at Red Oak only, all other parking at Lippold Park and Schneider School.

Bug Bash Ages 3+

Let’s party to celebrate the 15 quintillion insects that call our planet home! Families are encouraged to swarm Red Oak Nature Center for an evening of buggy activities, dinner (pizza, drink, and dessert), and games. Participants must be accompanied by a registered adult. One parent may accompany two children from the same household. Advanced registration is required. No bugs will be ‘bashed’ during this event.
