AGFS : GROWTH Careers O Career ’s Fair T
he new academic year started with an exciting range of activities for our Year 11
students. With an opportunity to gain an insight into the working world during Work Experience, a trip to Ravensbourne for a post-16 Progression Fair, and Ark GFS’s first Careers Fair of this year – all of this within the first three weeks of term!
Our ambitious Year 11 students have Sixth Form open days and applications just around the corner. With this in mind, AGFS opened their doors on Thursday 20th
September
to invite representatives from The Royal Borough of Greenwich and Bexley Borough. Many institutions from the local area and beyond presented: Townley Grammar School, Bexley Grammar, Beths Grammar
School, Woolwich Poly, Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar, Shooters Hill 6th
Form College, Blackheath High School, Colfe’s, Christ the King, Harris Academy and LSEC to name just a few.
This was a fantastic and exciting opportunity for our young people in Year 10 and Year 11 to speak directly to Heads of Sixth Forms regarding their post-16 Progression. Pupils also gained valuable information on the courses available and learnt what 6th form is really like from some of our founding cohort of AGFS students – now in Year 13!
Along with all the above, students in Year 10 & Year 11 are now receiving a 1-1 or small group careers meeting with our school Careers Lead to discuss their career journey. It has been a very busy first term for our students!

positive workplace behaviours. The idea of team work,
independence, and resilience. They explored the importance of these skills in the workplace environment; like the need for excellent time-management in order to stay on top of work load.
Students specifically highlighted parallels between the high expectations that exist at AGFS and important workplace behaviours. Students are now much more aware why we place such an emphasis on them being prepared and prompt for lessons.
The day culminated in students producing role plays, evidencing times in their lives when such workplace behaviours had been shown. This taught many Year 10 students that they could easily draw on past experiences to solidify their understanding of these behaviours. The idea behind this was to prepare students for workplace interviews where they will be asked to provide evidence of these behaviours, as well as to encourage them to think about their future choices on the path to a career.
The students who took part now have a draft personal statement that they can employ for their applications to post-16 study, along with a refined idea about where to complete their work experience placement at the beginning of the next academic year.
