DRAMA DDD Acting Workshop

s part of activities week the students took part in a Drama workshop led by professional

actor Daniel Cane. The students from Year 7 to 10 reflected on their year at GFS choosing key moments which were important to them as a stimulus to devise a role play in the style of a movie trailer.

They created some wonderful work and as you can imagine a lot of the trailers were quite comical! Thank you to Daniel Cane for leading such a fantastic workshop and to the students for their creativity and talent.

COMPOSING A RAP A T

he Year 11 Music class participated in DDDs on 18th

and 19th October. Students spent a whole day

working on their compositions for their coursework using music technology, and then had dedicated rehearsal time and performances to record their solo performance pieces. Highlights include Joel Mann performing grade 2 drum piece ‘Dora and Bootsy’, Francesca Kiana-Bercaner performing an exceptional rendition of grade 6 guitar piece ‘Albatross’ and Amran Mahamud performing ’Rolling in the Deep’.

‘It was a fun day because I got to experience real GCSE music recording. I also really liked making my own music and expressing the feelings in my picture for my coursework’ – Reese Maleking Year 10

s part of activities week in July, all students across Years 7 – 11 had the opportunity to take part

in an hour workshop where they wrote their own rap about their time at AGFS.

Students were given creative freedom to include what they wanted in the rap and split themselves between a design team, music production team, and rapping team.

From each group, three students composed their own backing beat using Logic, three students designed an album cover for their band, and three students wrote the rap. The day was a huge success and all students thoroughly enjoyed the day and it resulted in brilliant outcomes.

A

s part of our PSHE curriculum each year group will be having a DDD focusing on sex and

relationship education. Students worked alongside HoYs, Teaching Staff, our School Nurse and Facilitators from Sexplain to learn about things from consent, puberty, periods, healthy relationships to contraception.

Myles Barnes Year 10 reflects on the day:

“During the SRE drop down day I learnt that everyone is different, however we are all the same; we must respect each other, our choices and paths in life. During the consent workshop I learnt that you have to respect others choice to say no to any kind of relationship. I learnt that relationships mean you have to keep calm and check in with your partner around what they are comfortable with and their mental state. We spoke about what a healthy relationship looks like and how it should be. We also were introduced to contraception and signposting where it was available from. Furthermore we also spoke about the law and dangers around sexting; such as not sending pictures to others and reporting anyone who sends you illegal images. I enjoyed the day and it made me a lot more confident about SRE and being open minded with others.”

Kyann Makele-Moukouma for 8 Harrison reflects on his experiences of the day:

“The SRE day was educational; many people came in to school to help students learn about different body parts and being respectful towards others. There were many questions that got answered by the facilitators. It was fantastic to have an opportunity for all of the curious questions that kids think about to be discussed in detail. I learnt a lot from the day about a range of issues in SRE and the day was really good.”
