GOLDEN TICKET TO

O

ver the course of the last school year, AGFS students worked hard to win the new Golden Tickets for

hard work in meeting the school values of Growth, Fellowship and Scholarship (this year we’ll be also working towards our new value of Ambition).

We had the opportunity to win small prizes throughout year in a raffle draw, but the most important prize we were working towards was an all-expenses- paid rewards trip to Thorpe Park.

The final week of summer term came around and finally the students with the ten most Golden Tickets in each year were revealed. Each student was able to choose a friend, as long as they were in the top 50 Golden Tickets in their year, and 100 students sealed their places on the coaches to Thorpe Park.

It was a scorching hot day in the middle of the heat wave, and Thorpe Park was at full capacity, so we had to brave long queues in order to get on to esteemed rides such as Saw, Swarm and Nemesis Inferno. Even the teachers braved the queues for the terrifying, white-knuckle experience of the tea cups!

Overall, the rewards trip to Thorpe Park has inspired students to work extra hard throughout the course of the year. Knowing that it will be happening again next July is already motivating students at AGFS to live the values of Ambition, Growth, Fellowship and Scholarship, and do everything we can to book a place on the coach in the summer.

SHE WHO DREAMS

he US Programme,‘She Who Dreams’, encourages young girls to achieve their dreams

and ambitions.

They offer workshops to network and build contacts for their future. Twenty Year 11 girls had the opportunity to apply for the latest workshop provided by this programme, by writing a 200 paragraph about what they want to achieve. AGFS were proud to

announce that four girls were successful in achieving a place at the ‘She Who Dreams’ workshop which took place at The Shard. The students receive advice on how to keep start building contacts and networks.

Please look out in the main hall for the Ambition Display which features this event and showcases the student applications. This is just one of many special events that demonstrate our ambitious journey for our students.

MY FIRST TWO DAYS AT AGFS By Ayo Otelaja Year 7

T

he first day of my time at AGFS was amazing. From the start of the line-up we set our standards so high. We

were rewarded with a snack and a drink at break time and a lovely lunch for all our hard work on our first day – which everyone got very excited. As a form group, 7H found out that we had an amazing artist in our group, Jai Dhaliwal. Our first day used fun activities to broaden our knowledge of the school and the whereabouts of certain places that we may need to use via the treasure hunt that we participated in, this was very enjoyable and was a stepping stone to us feeling more confident in our secondary school surroundings.

The second day was another stage of our new beginning and continued with the high standards set from the previous day. This was the time that we met our subject tutors and learnt about the transition period between each period from ground floor up to the third floor which holds Art, MFL and Humanities. This also allowed us to learn rules, for instance when to use both staircases for going in one direction like at the end of the day. As we learned more and more about school and new expectations, we all learnt to adjust and work to the best of our ability.
