AGFS : ENRICHMENT

Black History Month

DEBATING ENRICHMENT

T B

lack History Month was a very exciting period, where everybody enjoyed the black culture being

celebrated at AGFS – especially on Wednesday 17th October. On that day students wore their cultural attire to school or all black, to show support for Black History Month.

The canteen staff put on a special menu of cultural foods and the day was full of excitement. The concert - which took place that evening -was a monumental event in the history of Ark Greenwich Free School.

The students put on brilliant and captivating performances that not only engrossed the audience, but left many in awe about the exceptionally talented students that we have in our school community.

There was an unrelenting desire from both students and staff in the lead up to the show to deliver the “best Black History Month show AGFS has ever seen”.

This was undoubtedly achieved due to the hard work and commitment put in by all parties associated with the show. The students paid homage to the notable achievements and contributions of key ethnic figureheads in black history, but more importantly they ensured the performance was inclusive of our diverse and multicultural community at school.

The show can be considered a resounding success. Thank you once again to the wider AGFS community for attending this magnificent show.

his term we have had a brilliant start to our Debating Enrichment. Our students have learnt about how to

have more confidence, to respectfully rebut each other’s arguments, and how to be convincing speakers. Miss Deshaies and I have been thrilled at how well the students have taken to the daunting task of public speaking, and we are filled with pride every single week at how eloquently they express their ideas. Our favourite debates so far have included: Should everyone be vegetarian? Should we go through with leaving the EU? Should Mobile Phones be banned in Schools?

We can’t wait to see what the next few weeks of debating will bring, as our topics are entirely student led, which has led to exciting discussions.

Next term we are very excited to be getting involved in the ‘Up for Debate’ London competition and taking our AGFS Debating team to go head to head with other brilliant schools in the capital.

Such a brilliant term of debating would not have been possible without the unrivalled enthusiasm that our students have, and their ability to put their ideas across. We can’t wait to see the inspirational leaders that they become in the future.
