O
BOULOGNE TRIP of July, we
n Monday, 16th
took 44 pupils to Boulogne, France for a fantastic Modern
Languages experience. After two hours on the road and a bit less than two hours on the ferry, we made it to the North of France for a day of immersion that our pupils would not forget. We started with a visit of the Old Town where we explored the city and ate escargots (snails!)
In the afternoon, we visited the Nausicaa aquarium; a place full or surprises that many never had the occasion to visit back home. After a few hours spent there, we finished with the Dhardelot family owned biscuit factory where our pupils were told the whole process to create the famous biscuits that French people enjoy so much.
ENRICHMENT O
ne of the latest activities on offer to AGFS students for enrichment is an afternoon
of voluntary work in a local primary school.
This is so popular that we have a waiting list of students wanting to support younger children. Twelve of our Year 7 and 8 students have been lucky enough to have this opportunity already and have spent their Wednesday afternoons at Charlton Manor Primary School supporting students across Key Stages 1 and 2.
They have worked in pairs to support class teachers with delivering lessons, helping younger children with reading and becoming team captains in PE lessons.
Since starting the enrichment, teachers at the primary school have had nothing but praise for these students, commenting on their manners, their willingness to get involved and the impact they are having in lessons. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the children either. As soon as they see the AGFS students walk through the gate, their faces light up and they all want to say hello and work with them when they get back to their classes. Students in this enrichment group have been a real credit to AGFS and Miss Towler and Mr Watson couldn’t be prouder of how they are conducting themselves.
In coming weeks, Abdirahman Hassan in Year 8 has been set a challenge to take on Charlton Manor’s multiplication champion. Will he be successful in defeating the reigning champ? Watch this space!
MORDEN COLLEGE: CARE HOME ENRICHMENT O
ne of our charity enrichments for six AGFS students has been visiting
dementia patients in a local care home. Danielle Boakye in Year 8 reflects on this:
Morden College is a large charity which has been providing residential care in Blackheath for over 300 years! They believe strongly in the values of courtesy, patience, integrity and generosity of the spirit.
Morden College is a great place to support if you choose this enrichment especially if you enjoy caring for people and socialising. In care home enrichment, you can: talk and interact with elderly people, play games, and have fun.
HELPING THE COMMUNITY
My experience at the care home has been amazing. It has allowed me to come out of my comfort zone and become more confident. I have also
been able to meet new people. I really enjoy the care home enrichment because we all have the opportunity to look after others.
