Sports day T

he end of summer term can only mean one thing, that’s right – Sports Day. Once again, Harrison,

Waugh, Nightingale and Sancho went head to head to decide who will be this year’s Sports Day champions and have the bragging rights for another year, as well as their name on the shield.

AGFS sports day returned to its spiritual home of Sutcliffe Park Athletics Track after a year away. Students arrived eagerly, ready to set up their posters, banners and drums to ensure an electric atmosphere throughout the day, and they did not disappoint. As well as the overall winners, each year group were looking to win their respective year’s trophy as well and, as you can imagine, the competition was fierce – particularly during the staff relay!

Students competed in the following disciplines: 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1500m, 4x100m relay, shot put, javelin, discus, long jump, high jump and triple jump. All in all, an incredible 27 new school records were set on the day, not including the hurdles results which made its debut this year. This is more than ever before and is a testament to the attitude and work students had put into their performances during PE in the summer term.

Congratulations go to our new record holders: Year 7: Ki’Annah Ekinu

(Shot Put),

Connor Newbrook (100m and 200m) and Edoardo Bognolo (800m).

Year 8: Holly Redfern (300m), Mercy Rakickis (800m and 1500m), Manon Le Tynevez-Dobel (Discus), Umar-Al-Faruk Abudu (200m), Sherif Karatu (300m) and Mohammed Asare (800m).

Year 9: Kristina Broeren (800m), Jessica Allart (Javelin), Reigan Johnson-Hinds (300m), Adam Ibrahim (1500m) and the 4x100m Boys relay team.

Year 10: Kate Kabengele (100m and 200m), Aqeelah Thomas (300m), Alexi Loizou (Javelin), Amelia Llloyd (High Jump), Alimamy Mansaray (300m and High Jump), Mujeeb Yusuf (800m), Falcon Page (Javelin), Max Barker (Discus) and Harrison 4 x 100m Girls Relay team

Well done to: Waugh (Year 7 Champions), Nightingale (Year 8 Champions), and to Sancho (Year 9 and 10 Champions) – however, there can only be one overall winner… Sancho! An incredible total of 876 points means that Sancho get their name on the trophy for the very first time.

Well done to team PE who won the staff relay, getting the trophy off of a visibly upset SLT team! A brilliant day was had by all. A huge thank you goes to all the staff for making the day possible. Roll on 2019...
