Drop Down Days
Natural History O
Year 9 visit the Natural History Museum
n Friday’s Drop Down Day, Year 9 Geography students visited the Natural History Museum in London. Students were on a journey of discovery and were looking for the answers to their biggest questions about the planet.
These ranged from; “What makes tectonic plates move?”, “How did the dodo become extinct?” and “Is there a space that contains…space itself?”
Students visited exhibitions on the world’s great oceans, human evolution, space, dinosaurs and plate tectonics. Students will be using this trip to help support their understanding of their new unit of work on earthquakes and volcanoes.
Year 8 Rugby A
fter the success of last year’s Rugby DDD the Year 8’s were back at it again, putting their skills to the test!
AGFS are halfway through a three year funded link with the RFU which is aiming to facilitate an increase in opportunities and equipment for children at the grass roots level of rugby. As part of this, Charlton Park Rugby Football Club kindly offered their facilities for the day, and what a day it was.
With Mr Momodu and Mr Scafe leading two outstanding sessions in the morning, the students were put through their paces on the tackle pads, and for their
passing. Once they passed this rigorous examination they were then set for the afternoon’s big event, the house Rugby competition. Five pitches, with a mini tournament on each, meant that every student had the opportunity to pass, tackle, ruck and most importantly, score!
All results were collated and Sancho were revealed as the House Rugby Champions for 2018/2019! All in all, a fantastic day was had by all – the students demonstrated exactly what it is to be an AGFS student: plenty of hard work, determination, resilience and skill. Finally a huge thank you to all the staff involved in the running of the day. We look forward to next year’s event!

YEAR 7 TEAM-BUILDING of
and Friday 19th
October, AGFS Year 7 students had their first drop down days. We took a break from our regular lessons and learnt different skills and abilities outside the classroom. Throughout all the activities we participated in, we showed the school values. For example, we had a task to make the tallest structure out of marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti in groups. It fell many times yet we showed growth, fellowship, scholarship and ambition by constantly rebuilding it and eventually we managed to build the tallest structure out of all the groups. Throughout the two days, the theme of all the activities was team building; we were able to build our bonds of fellowship. In one activity we had to get a balloon around the entire class in a circle without our hands. Everyone had to touch the ball, so we had to acknowledge everyone’s weaknesses to find the best strategy to complete the task. After much trial and error, our group completed it in 40 seconds using everyone’s suggestions.” Othniel Mafuba Year 7
“On our first drop down day in Year 7, we did many fun and challenging activities. Our days focused on team building, which means working together with people we didn’t know and making new friends in our year. On these days we were able to show fellowship and ambition; by working together, helping others, seizing every challenge and always wanting to do extra. Every student in Year 7 had fun on these two days and learnt to be more confident.” Ruby Crouch Year 7
