Released addict is back in court
A HEROIN addict with “an ap- palling” record of previous con- victions was arrested again on theft charges, just six weeks after being released fromprison. Lee Stych (45), of no fixed abode,
stolemeat products worth £123.11 from the Marks and Spencer Sim- ply Food store inAylesford. JamesNichols toldthe court how
Stych, who also has family in Park Wood, had deliberately stolen the meat, but all the itemswere recov- ered at the scene. Mr Nichols said: “Mr Stych is in
breach of his conditional discharge to not enter the location of any Marks and Spencer store for any reason.” Defending, JohnRoberts toldthe
court that Stych had a serious heroin addiction and in this case, he felt relaxed and it had “got the better of him”. The court heard Stych had run
out of money, having been given £46 upon release from prison weeks before. He alsowas running out of his prescribed methadone treatment. The court was told Stych would
regularly “top up” on heroinwhen his methadone prescription was
running low. It has since been in- creased. Probation services told the court
that Stych regularly attended his meetings having just left prison and shows signs of wanting to “make changes in his lifestyle”. Mr Roberts told the court:
“When it comes to sentencing, I be- lieve being in the community is boundto be farmore effective than in prison, where he does not inde- pendently receive support like he would outside prison.” Stych has over £4,000 in out-
standing fines from his multiple previous convictions. Chairman of the bench, Peter
May, said: “You’ve got an ap- palling record, the court needs to balance the protection of both the public and locals stores for your crimes. “Youhave hadprison, youknow
what it’s like. You know the out- come if you do not comply fully with the court.” Stych was sentenced to a com-
munity order of 12 months and a nine-month drug rehabilitation course. He was also ordered to at- tend the means court to establish his financial situation.
