AREMEMBRANCE project by the military charity Royal British Le- gion Industries has been launched. A Wall of Honour was unveiled

before more than 600 people, in- cluding local dignitaries, on Re- membrance Sunday,November 11. More than 150 families, individu-

als and organisations have donated to the project as away of remember- ing thosewho lost their lives inWWI and othermilitary conflicts. RBLI chief executive Steve Sherry

said: “We have had an overwhelm- ing response to theRBLIWall ofHo- nour project and are incredibly proud to be able to offer a place of contemplation for families to come and remember their loved ones. “We fittingly unveiled theWall of

Honour at Sunday’s service. The project will continue throughout 2019 – RBLI’s own centenary year – and it will be a permanent place of remembrance for families based around theUK.” During the Remembrance Day

service, relatives of servicemen and women remembered on the Wall told the story of their loved ones.

– with no place of remembering his short but important life. However, RBLI’sWall of Honour has righted this wrong, and given us a place to remember his immense sacrifice.” “It’s been 100 years since the end

Marking end of hostilities

THEcentenaryof the 1918Armistice was marked across Kent with the lightingofbeacons accompaniedby peals of church bells. November 11 at 11am is the date

and time war officially ended after four years of global conflict. The Armistice was signed be-

tween the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France at 5.45 am, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front ofWWI, which took effect at 11am. So the “eleventh hour of the

eleventhdayof the eleventhmonth” is symbolic, but, according to ac- counts, shelling from both sides continued for the rest of the day, only ending at nightfall. Tragically, men continued to lose

their lives hours aftermost service- men on both sides had put down theirweapons. The Treaty of Versailles was

signed the following year, as the Armisticewas a temporarymeasure lasting 36 days. In the years since 1939, Remem-
