Halesworth & Southwold Community News October 2018 5 News form the Hoppa

we are still no wiser of the decision the Department for Transport will make regarding community transport, but we remain hopeful of a positive outcome. As soon as a decision is made we will make passengers aware. numbers on the bus seem to

be ever-decreasing as we find ourselves competing against other forms of transport in the area. we hope people will continue to use the Hoppa as

for many it is a lifeline and it will be a tragedy to see it disappear. where possible on our route, we come to your door. our drivers and bus buddies will also help with all your shopping both on and off the bus. we like to think the Hoppa provides a safe, friendly and helpful environment for all age groups. you have probably noticed

a few new drivers on your journeys. we welcome them on board but we are always

looking for new drivers and bus buddies to join our team. Remember the Hoppa is

for everyone. you can pick up timetables in the library, the Council offices and at HACT’s office at the station. If you need any more information please contact Julia at the office on 01986 875900. email

HALESWORTH ANTIQUES STREET MARKET

“we’Ve been coming to this part of Suffolk for ages but only discovered Halesworth this year because of the Antiques Market. we will definitely come here regularly now!” Just one of many visitor remarks made to the volunteers manning Halesworth Tourism Group’s Information stand at the street market. It’s so important to remember that this event isn’t just about buying and selling but plays a critical part in attracting visitors to Halesworth. The sort of visitors who return time and again, contributing to the town economy. This ‘visibility’ is ever more important. The event attracted the fullest complement of stallholders so far. The Thoroughfare, the old Print works and the Marketplace, were transformed into a fantastic smorgasbord of antiques and collectables. we were all dreading the forecast rain which, in the end, held off until the afternoon, but apart from packing up a tad earlier than usual, the rain made little difference to the day in terms of visitor enjoyment or trading. The event originated as a money-raiser for charity and so it has continued. Income derives from three sources: stallholder

fees, public

donations on the day and town business donations (shops, pubs and cafes). The organisers are delighted to acknowledge donations from several of the

businesses that took advantage of the footfall including The white Hart, Focus organic, Halesworth Deli, Antimacassar and Anne Gray Antiques, and, with thanks for their special generosity, The Angel, the Boarding House Dining Rooms, Red eyed Dove, iChameleon, Just nice Things, Black Dog Antiques, Valerie’s Consignment Store, Huus and Half Moon House. Despite ‘bucket’ donations

being down, the event raised a healthy sum meaning that, after expenses of extensive print and digital advertising, printing, road signage and public liability insurance, £4000 has been passed to the eAAA (over 20% up on last year). As in past years, remaining funds are distributed

between several of the town’s non-profit organisations and charities including edgar Sewter School for provision of overflow parking and, also, in acknowledgment of parking facilities made available courtesy of Mike King, to a charity of his choice. As mentioned, volunteers

from the Halesworth Tourism Group manned a local information stand that proved extremely popular with both visitors and residents. Local organisations such as the Halesworth and District Museum, the Twinning Association and Friends of Halesworth Library successfully promoted their own activities so, all in all, an excellent day across the board.
