To London Road, Halesworth, and thewhite Swan Inn, opposite St. Mary's Church.our Landlord, Steve Tompkins, makes us comfortable in the upstairs room. eighteen poets, including three new-comers, beat their way here on a blustery night. The room is spacious, with smart chairs and tables arranged in a half-moon. The sound carries well, bounces off the high wooden ceiling. out front is a readers' table with a bright lamp where we will stand in turn to present our new-made verses. Most carry their drinks up from the bar. It is convivial. we feel welcome here. we settle in, and savour our new-found name - SwAn PoeTS. There's a sweet Shakespearean ring to it. The

MAny thanks to everyone who came and took part in the village treasure hunt. we were lucky with the weather and lots of you were spotted wandering the streets of Reydon looking for the answers to the clues to work out the puzzle. The winner of the luxury hamper, which included a £50 Sutherland House voucher, was Sarah Burrage, and the runner up winning a book token was Lauren Smith. The children’s colouring competition was won by Maddison Dexter and she received a SPoTS voucher. A big thank you to Charlotte Clark from the library who

ancient Chair (born and raised on the Handsworth side of the Forest of Arden!) ushers in a new beginning for the creative poets of Halesworth district. After

three beautiful

recollections of a family enduring the travails of war, we move on to the natural history of gardens, before being ever-so- slightly shocked to find ourselves re-living decadent days in the smoke-filled dives of Soho. Soon we are back in Suffolk lanes, or learning the life of hardy southern foresters in pre-war times. Suddenly we are ambushed by six hilarious 'alphabet' poems before the first half closes on a tender rendition of Robert Burns' – o Rowan Tree - fitting homage

to the dawn of early autumn. At the interval a surprise, a treat! Steve arrives with a tasty cake and biscuits. The chatter goes on; poets chewing the fat, sharing news, encouraging each other, and talking technicalities. The last hour is full of delights: love poems, satires on modern life, poems in free verse, poems with subtle rhymes. There seems to be no end to the inventiveness the fun and the word play. Two hours is simply not enough. Swan Poets plan to meet again

at The white Swan, London Road, Halesworth on Friday 16th november at 7pm. Admission is £2 on arrival. If you have a poem to read, contact Mike on mab2015@icloud.com.

Changes for The Angel Car Park

SIMon and Cleo would like to warn all of Halesworth’s car- driving public that technology is coming to The Angel’s car park. we are installing a ’Parking eye’ AnPR system to deter unauthorised use of our small car park. once up and running, anyone using the area will have to enter their correct registration number into the tablets within the Hotel to avoid being fined. This will only be possible when the hotel is open and only available to actual customers at that time. we understand that this will

be inconvenient to many but we hope that our genuine customers will understand the benefit of us trying to keep the few spaces we have, for them. If you have any questions about this, please ask Simon.
