Halesworth Men’s Shed October Update
nexT time you are passing the Sorting office in norwich Road, take a look at the planters next to the steps. These planters were made by the Shed, for Halesworth in Bloom. which gives us an opportunity to mention the Shed welcomes orders for your small timber projects and refurbishments. we would hugely appreciate donations of your old garden benches with metal ends – in any condition and we can collect. Last year our weekly woodwork Classes
for
Absolute Beginners were a sell-out. They start again on Thursday 4th october, running from 2pm-4pm and the classes be led by our experienced lecturer and joiner Steve. There are spaces and we look forward to welcoming you. Representatives of the Shed
were proud to support the event at the Library on Tuesday 18th September, when the wonderful
glass bowl engraved in memory of the late Tamsyn Imison was placed on display. The Shed made and donated the cabinet that holds the glass bowl, complete with lighting for the display, so that the bowl can be seen to best advantage. As you know the Shed is a registered charity Lastly our appreciation to
our Press officer, Ian, who is having a few days' rest (or playing golf, if that's the same thing!). Shed opening days and
times: Tuesday - Thursday 10am – 2pm; Saturdays 10am – 12pm.

FoUR weeks is a long time in football terms, last month's report was full of gloom and misery. Since then we have kept our unbeaten record against “ you know who “, which now goes back ten years! After the international break we had three games in a week and won them all, plus we are through to the next round of the League Cup after a narrow win over wycombe. Unbelievably we now sit just two points off six place with a run of winnable games to come, famous last words! First update on our Fantasy Football competition reveals Josh as the early leader, a full 83 points from a certain Mr Gooch in last place. early injuries and suspensions have hampered Charlie’s team but there is a long, long way to go. next update is during our october meeting, wednesday 24th october, when we will also arrange Christmas meal.

oUR AGM in September held at Holton Village hall was attended by 45 members. The committee for the next year was elected and a new constitution adopted. AGMs are important but rarely one of those ‘must go to’ events in our busy lives. However, it heartening to see a good level of support and for some helpful formal and informal ideas come forward to help U3A better provide an ‘umbrella’ for so many regular activities in the Halesworth area. The formal AGM was followed this year by an interesting talk from Dave wolwebber one of our members, about the treasures now to be found in the Halesworth Museum. He also gave us a
preview of his recent book about the influential Halesworth based medieval Argentein family along with the story behind the strange carvings to be found on the Ancient House. our AGM afternoon concluded with time for tea cake and chat. our monthly talk for october
is again this year in association with Halesworth Arts Festival (HAF) and sees a welcome return to The Cut on Tuesday 16th october at 2.30 by the ever- popular speaker Mark Michells. His illustrated talk this year will be about Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre as seen from an audience perspective and promises to be informative and entertaining in equal measure. There is no charge for U3A members,
