Town Forum: The second Town Forum of the year covered most of the issues which will have a significant impact on the lives of Halesworth residents. Subjects covered included the major housing developments, the plans for a new Community Centre, what barrow crossing users have to do to ensure that network Rail has no excuse to close the crossing plus several subjects raised by residents at the meeting. The minutes of the Town Forum will be available on the Town Council website; www.halesworthtowncouncil.
org.uk. CCTV: Anti-social behaviour
when it occurs can be very upsetting, very annoying and sometimes frightening for residents. As a consequence when the possible installation of CCTV cameras was raised by a resident at the Town Forum, the show of hands at the end of the discussion was overwhelmingly in favour of their use. The Town Council will be reviewing the implications of installing CCTV at its next Town Council meeting. where to install them will need to be decided but the Thoroughfare and its car park and possibly the Park are the main areas to be covered. There are strong arguments for
their installation but also strong ones against and so the Town Council will be keen to hear resident’s opinions. The Town Council will also be seeking advice from the Police. Community Infrastructure
Levy and s106/s111 Moneys: These were also discussed at the Town Forum. They are two levies that developers currently have to pay which go towards compensating for the impact their development will have on a town. The s106/ s111 levies are supposedly being phased out because their use is restricted to improving open areas such as play spaces and recreational areas. They are being replaced by the CIL money levy which has a far wider range of use and will be a significantly bigger sum of money. when a developer of a project in Halesworth pays the CIL, 15% automatically goes to the Town Council. This money can be used for improving the facilities and the infrastructure of the town. It cannot be used for paying for running costs nor can it be used for recruiting personnel. The Council has set up a working Group to monitor this income and make recommendations for the best use of the money,
it has also requested ideas from residents for potential improvements to the town. All expenditure will be reported annually on the Council’s website. The Tamsyn Imison -Community Project Award: This is Halesworth’s first such award and it was recently launched at the Library. It is a very fitting legacy for Tamsyn who did so much to make Halesworth and attractive and pleasant place in which to live and work. It will be awarded for
the volunteer or volunteer group who have done the most to improve the quality of life of Halesworth in that year. nomination forms are available from the Library or can be down-loaded from the Town Council’s web site. nomination forms do not have to be submitted until February 1st next year with the award being presented on May 1st, Tamsyn’s birthday.
Halesworth (Holton) Airfield Museum
THe museum “open Day” was held on Sunday 26th August. Sadly the weather was not
kind to us this year and the rain set in about 1pm, forcing stall holders to pack up their wares. However the committee
would like to thank all who visited us and supported the museum despite the weather. organisation of the event
takes a lot of time and dedication by many members and friends of the museum. our thanks to all involved
in running the BBQ, Bar, Refreshment tent, draw and all the stalls; suppliers, home bakers who spent money and much time in preparing food. we are indebted to the following companies for their valuable sponsorship: Halesworth Co-op for supplying bread and rolls; Green Jack brewery, Lowestoft for their beer; Allens Butchers of Halesworth for burgers and sausages and Mrs M Took's excellent food. our draw this year will be
drawn on our last seasonal opening day on Sunday 28th october. Tickets are still available through the museum. First prize of £100 has kindly
been sponsored by Spectra Packaging of Sparrowhawk Road, Halesworth. our thanks also to Marshalls
