ISSUE SPOTLIGHT: CORPORATE CHRISTMAS ISSUESPOTLIGHT

Hotels and venues across Northamptonshire are gearing up for the festive season as they prepare to take care of all your CORPORATE CHRISTMAS needs

DAZZLE AT THE

DECO THEATRE Christmas is on its way! And for offices, factories and other work places, it is time to think about the annual knees up with colleagues to celebrate the season of goodwill! Northampton’s Deco Theatre is

taking over the town’s Guildhall in the countdown to the Christmas holidays, for the glitziest party in town: ‘Christmas in Vegas’. Jill Roach, house manager of The

AVOIDING A HR HEADACHE

Summer holidays are a distant memory, days shorten, so thoughts turn to the next big event – the staff Christmas party! For many organisations, party planning is well

underway with venues and menus chosen. However, without wishing to sound like a party pooper, festive frolics can cost your business. But before you decide that Christmas

should be cancelled “Grinch” style, Wilson Browne Solicitors head of employment law, Jennie Jahina (pictured) has helpful advice to ensure your party anecdotes are the subject of water cooler conversations for the right reasons. Jennie said: “Don’t assume – just because a work

event is out of hours, off-site, or organised by staff this does not necessarily mean that the organisation has no responsibility.

“Communicate – remind staff they are representing

the organisation despite the event being off-site and/or out of working hours, and that the organisation’s policies apply. Include a note that, unless they have obtained prior authorisation, attendance at work is expected the next working day! “Don’t discriminate – this sounds obvious

but organisations should consciously ensure all staff members are invited and ensure the menus cater for all dietary requirements. Likewise, if invites are

extended to ‘plus one’, use ‘partners’. “Do take allegations seriously – if an allegation of unacceptable behaviour is made, handle it as you

would if the allegation arose during normal hours. Follow procedures, investigate thoroughly.”

Deco, said: “We’re offering a fantastic night out, and an amazing setting for a perfect Christmas party. Dazzle in your best seasonal finery, and join us at the Guildhall for a night of glamour and sophistication from start to finish.” The Deco kicks-off the Christmas

party season on 1 December, when it hosts – at The Deco – another of its popular comedy-dining experiences: this time Only Fools and Hearses! This one is a murder-mystery

experience too (hence the title of the evening). So join Peckham’s finest: Del Boy, Rodney, Boycie and Marlene as they attempt to wrestle their way out of another tricky situation.
