Rugby 7’s Level 3 Competition – 20 April 2016
Trowbridge Rugby Club provided a great venue for the Rugby 7s competition with the sun shining down and the pitches in perfect condition.
Schools participating; Wellington Academy, St Johns Academy, St Augustines, Kingdown, Wyvern College and Sheldon.
Year 7 pupils from 6 schools took part in the round-robin competition which saw a very high standard of play. There were 4 Young Leaders from Royal Wootton Bassett School and they were a real credit to the school, carrying out their officiating tasks very professionally and confidently. Ceri Large who represented the RFU was a great inspiration to
the players. She is a member of the Women’s World Cup winning squad and took time to chat to the players and share her experiences with them and give them encouragement to achieve. “All the teams played with great team spirit and it was encouraging to see everyone showing such sportsmanship throughout the competition” said Ceri.

Emily Harrison, Avon & Wiltshire Netball Development Officer said “Not only was I really impressed with the standard of netball on show at this year’s School Games finals event, I was humbled to see the respect the young players were showing to their opposition and umpires too – they were a credit to the schools they were representing. The whole day was full of enthusiasm (from both on court and the side-lines!) and despite the ever-changing weather, the teams (and their teachers) were committed to putting on a great show of passion and skill on court. Congratulations to all involved (and the winners of each age group) and a special thank you to the army of umpires and volunteers who gave up their time to be at the event – many of which worked non-stop throughout the day!”
