Wiltshire County School Football - School Games

Wednesday 20th January 2016 saw our Sports Ambassadors and Abbeyfield School qualified referees supporting WASP & Wilts FA in the School Games County competition.

This competition is a hard event to referee as all the primary schools are playing for the title of “Wiltshire County Winners” and will represent the County in the Regional Finals in April.

As always our Abbeyfield Ambassadors did not crack under such pressure and remained professional throughout and

helped run another very successful primary school competition and motivated lots of children.

Well done to; Chantalle Church, Cameron Shipway, Taran Padam, Aaron Witchell, Harrison Jones, Charlotte Darcy, Sarah Saville, Brandon Willox Last, Tony Williams - Hon Sec Wiltshire Schools FA.

Tony Williams commented – “please pass my sincere thanks with my best wishes, they did a tremendous job and that they were a real credit to the school

Wiltshire School’s Cross Country Championships

In January the Wiltshire School’s Cross Country Championships were held at Grittleton School. These Championship are for those who qualified back in November. Abbeyfield pupils were Ethan Pierce year 10, Liam Brooks year 7, Toby Bridgeman-Daw Year 7. Cross Country is a distance and multi terrain event, not an easy sport to participate in as it requires lots of endurance and inner core strength

Age Group Year Minor Boys 7

Junior Boy 8&9 Inter Boy

10&11

Distance 2,500m 4,000m 5,600m

It was a typical Cross Country day, wet and muddy! Our first students to run in these prestigious Championships are Liam Brooks in year 7 coming in 19th place shortly followed by Toby Bridgeman - Daw coming in 36th place. Next to run was Ethan Pierce in year 10 coming in 8th place overall and 4th in his age group and securing himself a place on the podium and a place in the next round. Great race from start to finish and a fantastic battle at the end. Ethan Pierce went onto represent Wiltshire in the South West Schools Cross Country Championships in February and onto the Nationals in March.

Cricket Activator Course

In March Abbeyfield Sports Ambassadors where given the opportunity to participate in a Cricket Activator Course, which is designed to provide the Sports Ambassadors with the skills and knowledge they require to get involved in any aspect of making cricket happen. The Sports Ambassadors will then be able to

help in the sporting community through pre-identified volunteering opportunities i.e. lunch clubs and primary festivals.

A fantastic opportunity and an exciting qualification for our Sports Ambassador who all passed the Cricket Activator course and will receive certificates in assembly.
