Abbeyfield School achieve Gold Mark Award for first time

Abbeyfield have successfully achieved The Sainsbury’s School Games GOLD Kitemark award demonstrating that sport in the school is of high importance. The school is driven by a desire to be part of the School Games initiative and as a result members of PE staff have worked hard behind the scenes to help develop and secure this

prestigious Kitemark. Within Abbeyfield School there is an understanding of the School Games and what the programme is trying to achieve.

In order to achieve the kitemark during the 2014/15 academic year the school has:

 a system in place to track young people’s participation in the Sainsbury’s School Games;

 opportunities that attract less active young people to participate in physical activity;

 held a Sainsbury’s School Games Day as a culmination of a year round competition programme;

 a calendar of competition that demonstrates opportunities for young people with SEND to take part in competitions;

 a notice board promoting Sainsbury’s School Games activity.

 provide all pupils with two hours of physical education and school sport per week (made up of curricular and extracurricular activity);

 engage pupils in extracurricular sporting activity every week;

 engage students in leading, managing and officiating in Sainsbury’s School Games activity;

 have active links with at least three local sports clubs (one for special schools).

A really exciting time for sports at Abbeyfield School.

Lavington School achieve Gold Mark Award for second year running

Last year we received the Gold award and only 4% of Secondary Schools Nationally achieved this, it is with great pride and thanks to my fantastic PE team I can announce we have been awarded Gold again this year.

The verifier’s report states: When Lavington School received a validation visit for their application for a Mark award, it was clear from the evidence provided the school met the criteria to achieve a Gold Mark and exceeded

the criteria in every category. This Gold Mark Award represents the excellent and hard work the school has attained over the 2014/2015 academic year.” The verifier also congratulated us on being only one of

two schools in the country to receive the Gold Award in back to back years.

Learning through fun is essential to engage

young people. Taking them away from the classroom and being outdoors they can develop vital skills like teamwork, responsibility, perseverance and leadership.

We want to excite and engage young people, helping them to re-connect with the pleasures of simply being out and about in the countryside. We have 20 years’ experience of outdoor activities for schools and know how to encourage, motivate and manage youngsters.
