Friends School Senior Conference
Members of our new Sixth Form Leadership team visited Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham in June for the Friends School Senior Conference. They were joined by fellow Year
12 students from our sister Quaker Schools Leighton Park, The Mount and Bootham. Edward (new Clarke House
Captain) said of the three-day conference: “It was a unique and valuable experience that has not only brought us closer as a team, but also brought us a new understanding of the Quaker ethos and how that can be applied in our new roles as leaders at Sibford.” Octavia (new Fry House Captain) said “It was really useful to meet with our counterparts from the other Quaker schools, and we hope to work closely with them as we move forward in our new roles.” Woodbrooke was founded in 1903 and was the vision of George Cadbury and John Wilhelm Rowntree who saw a need amongst Friends for a ‘permanent settlement’ with a mission to ‘foster a vital Friends’ ministry’. It was only natural, therefore, that the Conference included a trip to neighbouring Cadbury World where students visited the history museum.
Speak out ... stay safe
Junior pupils received a lesson in how to stay safe when they were visited by Imogen McCabe of the NSPCC. Imogen, who was accompanied by the society’s mascot, ‘Buddy’, led
two assemblies and conducted two interactive workshops as part of the society’s ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ campaign, which gives children the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect. Edward Rossiter, head of Sibford Junior School, said: “It was a very
worthwhile and empowering morning for both pupils and teachers. Imogen discussed with the children issues such as bullying and sexual abuse, without using scary words or adult language. She also outlined some of the valuable work the NSPCC does across the country and talked about how important it is for everyone in our school community to join them in their ‘fight for every childhood’.” Imogen and Buddy are pictured with some of Sibford’s Year 6 pupils.
