Practical nanoscience
On 13 June a group of Year 9 pupils attended a Practical Nanoscience Day at Begbroke Park, run by Oxford University. The topics covered included:
• How small is a Nanometre? • Carbon Nanotubes and Buckyballs.
• Ferrofluids, and • Hydrophobic Coatings. Commenting on the day Abi said: “I learnt lots of new things, I enjoyed the practicals and it showed me that Physics can be fun!”. Ollie added: “I loved learning about nanoscience and nanotechnology and their real world applications.”
Message in a bottle
Much Ado About Nothing
Members of the Rain or Shine Theatre company returned to Sibford this summer to present the Shakespeare comedy ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. More than 100 pupils, parents and local villagers set out their picnic
tables and enjoyed the open-air performance. Meanwhile, hot chocolate from a donations café in the interval not only helped to keep audience members warm but also raised more than £63 for the charity Home- Start which offers support and friendship for families.
As part of the Year 1 and 2 ‘Land Ahoy’ topic, pupils have been looking at messages in a bottle. They decided to write their own message and put it to the test and see if it actually works. So over half term, class teacher Becca Edwards threw it off the Cornish Coast. We are now waiting to see what happens next!

Year 3 help to fill in gaps in the stones
Year 3 pupils have been taking part in an exciting challenge to help create a temporary display of sculptures inspired by the Rollright Stones. As part of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage and to celebrate their 20th anniversary, the Rollright Trust has teamed up with the OYAP Trust to invite young people to create 43 sculptures to fill the empty spaces of missing stones around the King’s Men stone circle. Year 3 visited the stones earlier in the term and in June, with the help
of local artist Anne-Marie Cadman, they created four unique sculptures. We now hope that these will go on display at The Rollright Stones over the summer for the public to see.
