Teams compete in County Finals

Step into Sport conference

On 8 May, six of our Year 9 pupils were amongst more than 50 students attending the ‘Step into Sport’ conference. Held at Blessed George Napier School, the conference was headed by Paralympian Ian Rose and comprised three workshops: • Skills and qualities of a role model/leader.

Two Sibford swimming teams travelled to Oxford Leys in April to compete in the School Games County Swimming Finals (seniors). This was a fantastic event where both teams swam brilliantly against some tough competition. The girls team of Lara, Emma,

Amy and Shae were particularly impressive and finished second bringing home silver medals. In the

• Introduction to STEP (Space, Task/Time, Equipment and People).

• Delivering engaging activities and competition.

Tane reports: “Six Year 9 pupils

were chosen to represent the school at the Step Into Sport Conference. At this event Taekwondo Paralympian Ian Rose, together with some of the BGN leaders, taught us how to involve children with slight disadvantages in activities and how to act in

those situations. “We also learnt how to be a

better leader and what qualities/ traits the leaders should have. They also made us think about how we could be better role models, and what attributes we could take back to our school. “Following on from the

conference we are now planning to run a multi skills club for the Junior School (Years 5/6). “All of us really enjoyed the day and learnt a lot about being an effective leader.”

Reuben competes for team GB

On 30 June Sixth Form student Reuben travelled to Holten in the Netherlands to complete as part of team GB in the European Junior Triathlon Cup. He tells us about his experience ... “What an honour representing Great Britain for my first U20

International race at Elite level. “Seventy athletes from around the world lined up on a hot start line in

Holten in Holland. I had a great start and came out middle order from the swim. The bike was insane, I registered 70kmh down hill into a sharp bend on cobbles. This was definitely a step up from the usual level I race at.

“My run was disappointing, the inconsistent race training in the build up showed. I didn’t finish where I was hoping but it has made me focus on the future and representing my country again.”

15

last week of term it was the chance for both our Year 5/6 girls and boys to compete in the School Games County Swimming Finals (juniors). Held at Radley College Sports

Centre in Abingdon, the event featured some 300 schools competing for titles. Both teams swam brilliantly with the boys (pictured above) coming home in Silver Medal position and the girls coming in 5th place.
