Giving a Voice through o
s we arrive at the end of the summer term it has been a time of reflection
and appreciation of the packed academic year we have enjoyed. Given the breadth and depth of activities which are available at Sibford it should perhaps come as no surprise that the school community has achieved a great deal over the course of the year. Even as I write I have been receiving
updates from Borneo where two groups of students are working on community projects, climbing mountains, visiting remote beaches and, frankly, having the time of their lives. Images of close encounters with orangutans will surely stay with them for life. Our final meeting of the year was held with many exhausted faces of pupils who had just returned from adventurous activity weeks and work experience. We reflected upon the many memorable events of the year. From the deep snow of winter to the recording of the school film back in the Autumn term and from Spamalot and Music at the Mill to scores of pupils on Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and incredible charitable and sporting success. We spoke about ‘letting our lives speak’ and, I have no doubt that every pupil, whatever their talents and background, has the opportunity to get involved and contribute to the community. Holistic and child centred education remains at the very heart of what we do.
Looking ahead we have much to look
forward to next year with the climbing wall due for completion in September and a significant creative arts project later in the Autumn term with a focus upon reflection and commemoration of the end of the Great War. We will be particularly focusing upon those who objected to the war because their conscience told them to do so as well as those who did decide to serve

to a number of staff. Rachel Thompson and Emma Sutcliffe leave the Textiles department. Charles Atkinson is stepping down from the English and Drama departments. We thank Neil Urquhart for his sterling work as interim Business Manager. We are
sorry to say goodbye to both Derek Bottomley and Melanie Deans from the Maths department (although we know they will much enjoy their shorter commutes!). Finally we say farewell to Vic Stannard who has led the Design and Technology department with such care and passion. We wish him a long and happy retirement. Leaving for a shorter period of time is Tamsin Cygal who departs on maternity leave – we look forward to hearing her news soon! There will be many who may not thank me for ending upon a football related theme. I am minded that, at this time, a
