What The Organic & Natural Sleep Category Looks Like Today
By Elaina Hundley Today’s consumers are increasingly invested in creating toxin-free and sustainable sleep environments. Offering natural or organic products is an opportunity for retailers to meet this growing demand while positioning themselves as educators supporting shoppers in their quest for a safer, more restorative sleep system. Before stocking your showroom, it’s important to understand the different types of products that are available—as well as the various manufacturing processes, sustainable materials and organic certifications.
1 Organic Mattresses, Inc. (OMI) For nearly 15 years, OMI has gained the trust of retailers and consumers alike by promoting healthy sleep with pure and honest products designed to reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals found in many conventional sleep products. Tout- ing an extensive list of product certifications and using a number of processes and tests to meet strict standards, OMI mattresses and bedding feature only the highest-quality, sus- tainable raw materials. OMI takes its dedication to clean, safe sleep several steps further; not only did the brand develop the first large-scale, dedicated organic sleep product manufacturing facility in America (“Eco-Factory), complete with but it designed an exclusive and proprietary ozone sanitization process to further purify or- ganic raw materials without the use of chemi- cals. In 2005, OMI became the first sleep-prod- ucts manufacturer to obtain GREENGUARD Gold certification for low VOC emissions; OMI mattresses qualify for LEED credits. The brand
