AWARDS

PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR

supported by

Calum Murray, Alness Pharmacy and Michael Conway, Senior Manager Retail Sales, Teva UK CALUM MURRAY, ALNESS PHARMACY, ALNESS

As well as working as the manager of Alness Pharmacy and as an independent prescriber, Calum also sits on both the Area Pharmaceutical Committee and the Community Pharmacy Highland Contractor Committee.

He takes on these extra commitments because he is passionate about the future of pharmacy in the area and has a strong belief that, by working with his peers, he will be able to improve services for both patients and pharmacists.

Calum also acts as a community pharmacy practitioner champion because he wants to provide support and encouragement for fellow pharmacists, while simultaneously gaining experience in the sector.

Calum currently works in a deprived area with a high demand on the healthcare services. The local GP surgeries are under a lot of pressure and do not have as much time to work with the pharmacy as they would like, so Calum aims to provide a comprehensive service that relieves pressure on the

practice and ensures that patients have confi dence in relying on the pharmacy fi rst.

He has also been working with the Area Pharmacy Committee and local members of the Scottish Parliament to promote recruitment and retention of pharmacists in the Highlands. In the region, this is one of the biggest barriers to giving the best level of care possible.

‘I’m totally thrilled. I think it shows what you can achieve in a Health Board like the Highlands, where I’ve had massive support from the

primary care teams. I’d also like to thank my pharmacy team for supporting me in everything I do.’

CALUM MURRAY, ALNESS PHARMACY

‘It’s vitally important for Teva UK to recognise pharmacists like Calum because they really are the lifeblood of healthcare in the community. These guys are the ones who are going to promote the profession going forward.’ MICHAEL CONWAY, SENIOR MANAGER RETAIL SALES OF TEVA UK
