INNOVATION IN supported by
PHARMACY PRACTICE
Noel Wicks and Rachel Green, Right Medicine Pharmacy celebrate with Stephen McGee, Head of Sales and Marketing, Positive Solutions and Andrew Sinclair, Sales Manager, Willach UK

It has been estimated that over one million UK hospital admissions each year are linked to medication issues. Combined with wastage, this costs the NHS a staggering £800m plus per annum.
On discharge from hospital some people may start to receive a social care package. Over time, as a person’s health declines further, the care package increases and they can spiral towards full-time care.
Right Medicine was Scotland’s first supplier of the Biodose pod system: a unique monitored dosage system supplied to nursing homes. The pharmacy chain is now the
first site in the UK to launch a trial of the new Biodose Connect solution, an innovative self- medication management solution for people living independently in the community. This medical device utilises the Biodose system and prompts and reminds people when to take their medication from one of the pre-dispensed pods.
Biodose Connect consists of a cradle that stays in the patient’s home and connects to web portal via an internal GSM data SIM. Each week, the pharmacy delivers a new sealed tray at a convenient time for the person or their carer, and the
tray simply slots into the cradle. The pharmacy set up the device in line with the person’s individual drug regime and lifestyle so that it will provide a visual alert showing which pod to take and when.
‘I would like to think that we’ve shown how pharmacy should start to look for new models of health and social care as the way forward when it comes to issues such as caring for an increasingly ageing population.’
NOEL WICKS, RIGHT MEDICINE PHARMACY, STIRLING
‘I think that technology is really advancing in pharmacy and
pharmacists are totally embracing new forms of technology in the delivery of healthcare to their patients.’
STEPHEN MCGEE, HEAD OF SALES & MARKETING, POSITIVE SOLUTIONS
‘Sharing information with pharmacists allows them to share best practice in the utilisation of technology within their profession and this is a great example of how well it can work.’
ANDREW SINCLAIR, WILLACH UK
