On each floor is a dining room with restaurant worthy linens and crockery, with an on-site head chef who cooks up quality dishes based on the residents’ preferences. there are plenty of spacious lounge areas and even a bar to chat over speciality coffees or a glass of wine at no extra cost. In better weather, the private gardens or suspended terrace make the perfect backdrop to enjoy afternoon tea.
Film fanatics will relish in the modern cinema room, purpose built with comfortable chairs. Or enjoy some peace and quiet with a good book in the library.
Residents can even continue with their grooming regime in the comfort of their home with a dedicated salon for hair stylists, podiatrists and complementary therapies such as massage and aromatherapy, with all treatments part of The Porterbrook package. For those more able, there is even a gym on-site with regular keep fit classes also.
Lounge Area
They say variety is the spice of life and at The Porterbrook, they boast a well-rounded events programme thanks to Tina Carrick, their dedicated activities co-ordinator. Along with activities like music and dance, arts and crafts and reading and discussion groups, they also invite external groups to visit their residents, having recently worked with ZooLab to provide handling of exotic animals
such as a corn snake, tarantula, giant African snail and a bearded dragon. There is even a chauffeur driven Mercedes-Benz available for when residents want to nip into town or meet up with family.
Whether their residents need full time personal care for help with daily living, are looking for some time out after illness or hospital stays, or simply fancy being looked after in luxury for the day, the new management team go that extra mile to ensure everyone who makes The Porterbrook their home feels comfortable and cared for while retaining their independence. Care home manager, Sheilagh Sweeney, has over 30 years social care experience and is supported by deputy manager Karen Keyworth and office manager Stephanie Walker. They say it’s no fun getting old but life would definitely be worth living in somewhere like The Porterbrook.
