For 40 years, T English Opticians have made it their mission to promote the importance of looking after your eyes by offering quality eye examinations and cutting-edge optical technology. Having previously been the manager at the Rotherham branch of Dollond and Aitchison, optometrist Terry English opened his own practice on Wellgate in March 1978. A real family opticians, Terry’s children, Claire and Nick, would help out on Saturdays, with both going on to train and qualify as dispensing opticians.
In 2007, the family opened a second practice at
Wickersley where the business has continued to move with modern times and evolving science. Now in his 70s, Mr English still works one day a week where he is joined by fellow optometrist, Jim Gill. Treating patients of all ages, T English Opticians continue to endorse the importance of regular routine eye tests, particularly in children. Both Claire and Nick are fully registered, qualified and insured to ensure that your child’s glasses fit correctly and comfortably. Appointments are spaced at 40 minute intervals allowing time to discuss your test without being rushed and browse frames at your own speed with no pressure selling. There is a wide selection of frames and lenses allowing every patient a pair of spectacles that not only look great but give the best possible vision.
T English Opticians are also one of the few practices in the region to have the extremely advanced Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT machine, which goes above and beyond traditional eye examination methods. Similar to an ultrasound scan but using light instead of sound waves, the OCT produces
an incredibly detailed image of the back of your eye which allows the optician to check for abnormalities that wouldn’t necessarily be seen using the manual method of shining a light in the eye. These are stored on their database providing an invaluable ongoing record of the health and condition of your eyes.
OCT is recommended for all patients as part of their ocular health check but in particular those at the greatest risk from eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, age related macular degeneration and vitreous detachments. For those who want the freedom of not wearing spectacles or contact lenses during the day, T English Opticians also provide orthokeratology or ortho K; a specially designed gas permeable contact lens that reshapes the cornea overnight to correct low to moderate levels of short sightedness.
Eyes are perhaps one of the most important organs in the body yet many people have never had an eye test or have them few and far between.
