Needle Felted Easter Egg
YOU WILL NEED • Felting Needle
• Felting Wool in white, green and yellow
• Styrofoam egg • Styrofoam hanger • Felting mat • Ribbon • Glue
METHOD
PLEASE NOTE: Each time you needle felt you will first need to separate the wool fibres by gently pulling apart and assembling into a pile on your foam mat.
The felting needle is barbed and very sharp, please be careful to keep your fingers out of the way and always turn your work and not your needle.
These instructions are for an adult but a safety felting needle is available for younger children.
1.Take a handful of wool and prepare as above. You will need a piece big enough to wrap all the way around your polystyrene egg.
2.Lay your egg on top of the fibres and carefully bring together. Start stabbing your wool making sure you puncture through the egg. Continue turning your work and felting until you have a nice even smooth finish.
ALL BHS TRAINED STAFF
3.To decorate, first start with the leaves. Pull off a small amount of green wool and roll between your fingers to make a tubular shape. Place on your mat and felt into a long leaf shape pulling in any fibres from the edge with your needle.
4.For the flowers use a small amount of yellow and roll into a ball. Flatten on your mat and felt into a teardrop shape; you will need four per flower. Now felt into position on the egg. Form shape, repeatedly stabbing the middle to form the indentation.
5.When you are happy with the end result make a small hole in the top of the egg and glue in your hanger.
6.Decorate with ribbons to finish.
Your Easter decoration is now complete
