THE BEST OF 2017 ALBUMS
KUDZOO presents our 15 best albums of 2017.
1. Southern Blood Gregg Allman When brother
Gregg left us in the summer of 2017, he left behind a final album that just so happens to be one of the finest of his ca-
reer. Besides a very moving autobiographical original tune, the rest of the album features Gregg performing and interpreting many of his all time favorite songs. Just beautiful, and a fitting farewell to a man who was a musical legend and hero to many of us.
2. Art of Soul Phil Swindle (featuring Jimmy Hall) Guitarist an singer/songwriter assembled
an overwhelmingly talented cast of players, including Jimmy Hall on vocals, along with a wide array of the south’s finest. Derek Hess, Tim Lindsey, the Mallaco Horns, Barry Rapp, Steve Perez and many others
3. Revolution Come, Revolution Go Gov’t Mule On their latest album, Warren Haynes and
company step up to the plate and once again knock it out of the park. In my humble opin- ion, Warren Haynes, along with Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke, is one of the two finest rock and roll songwriters working today. And when it comes down to it, it’s all about great songs.
4. Somewhere South of Eden Tommy Talton And speaking of great songwriters, the co-
founder of the iconic ‘70’s band Cowboy con- tinues his run of amazing solo albums with a record that includes one of our favorite songs of 2017, “When I Fall Asleep Again.” Amazing guitar work and vocals as well.
5. Wade Waist Deep Thomas Wynn & The Believers And speaking of the band Cowboy, their
founding drummer, a gentleman named Tom Wynn, is father to a pair of ultra-talented chil- dren, Thomas and Olivia Wynn, two members of one of the finest bands working today. Great and totally unique vocals, great song- writing and musicianship abound.
6. Best of Paul Thorn Tupelo, Missis-
sippi’s greatest export since Elvis Presley, Paul Thorn is one of greatest singer/song- writer/entertain- ers of our lifetime, and this collection is a fine sampling of Paul’s writing, and even includes a bonus disc of a live con- cert.
7. Soulfire Little Steven Van Zandt Bruce Springstreen’s long time side man.
Little Steven (aka: Miami Steve) returns to his solo work with his best solo album ever. Rather than they often overly political themes of his ‘80’s work, Soulfire brings the same en- ergy found so abundantly within the E-Street
