And I have a percussionist now. Folks are used to hearing those Allman songs with two drummers. I had another drummer for a while, but I couldn’t make it work. You know, there was a certain magic between Jaimoe and I. Our different styles meshed quite well. I play hard and heavy, while Jai plays lighter, syncopated, jazzier. Together, it created a unique sound. That’s probably not ever going to happen again. But Gary Dawson is a great percussionist and I’m glad to have him in the band. We have fun. That’s what it’s all about for me, man, the fun. No drama, no egos. We just play and have fun and enjoy the healing power of music. I mean, I am nearly 70 years old, but when I’m onstage paying, I feel like I’m 21!

Is Freight Train going to record an album? I tell you, it costs so much to record a proper album these days, and for what? It always gets stolen on the Internet. I have seen bands release a hot new record, and it didn’t sell well because so many people already had it by stealing it weeks before it was released. But we are looking at recording a lower budget live album. And also, we are looking into recording a multi-camera, pro-shot concert video. Speaking of Freight Train, we are

booked for a tour starting in March.

Well I hope to see you guys. You re- cently played just 25 miles away in Greenville, but I was out in Austin, Texas recording my new album and missed it. Maybe next time. Just let me know and I’ll put you on the list.

Thanks Butch. Do you think there will ever be an Allman Brothers reunion? Buffalo, I have learned to never say never. That said, it is very unlikely given the work schedules of Gov’t Mule, Warren’s other bands, Tedeschi Trucks – but like I say, never say never. Probably the biggest obstacle though is Gregg’s health issues. I just don’t see him being able to go out again, not unless he goes through some major healing first. But after the band ended, I couldn’t help but feel that we weren’t done. It’s a gut feeling.

I wish you guys could do at least one more tour. Me too, actually. There’s been talk of a 50th anniversary reunion in 2019, but truthfully, I doubt we will all still be alive by then. We will have to see. [Laughs] •
