Essential Spotlight The Holistic Health Approach
count your activity level, stress level, sleep patterns, digestive com- plaints, social support and more to optimize health. I believe when your nutrition program is focused on you, your life, your goals, your habits and your happiness, you realize your true potential. This sparks the drive to continue your nutrition plan, directing you on a path to long-term optimal health.
In my work as a Nutrition Therapy Practitioner and Eating Psy- chology Coach I have helped clients with:
• Determining food sensitivities and finding a “new normal” way of eating
I
have been passionate about fitness and nutrition since I was a little girl. I always wanted to be the fastest kid on the play- ground, and loved baking with my grandmother. This passion blossomed into training for different races, understanding higher quality nutrition and wanting to use my knowledge to help others feel healthier and happier. My new found mission to help others became the catalyst to change careers and become a Certified Nu- trition Therapy Practitioner, Eating Psychology Coach and Personal Trainer.
Part of my desire to help others came from the fact that like
so many of you, I have not lived a 100% organic, whole foods, purposeful movement life since I was a child. My life has been filled with both good and less than ideal nutrition for myself. My grand- parents owned a local grocery store and grew their own vegetables. Through the store, fresh meat was always provided to the family and from the gardens I ate peas straight from the pod and picked rasp- berries from the bush in the front yard. However, I am also a child of the 70’s and 80’s so Hamburger Helper, Steak’Ums, Frankenberry, frozen dinners, and Entenmann’s were all staples in the kitchen. I ate fat-free Fig Newtons with abandon in the 90’s and used to think organic wasn’t worth the expense. I have even struggled with food intolerances and have whined about giving up certain foods (or downright refused to listen to what my body was saying). In short, I understand. I understand the journey to a whole foods menu isn’t an overnight one or an easy journey. I understand how difficult it is to give up things that are a habit or provide comfort but are also compromising health. I understand that without knowledge of what works best for your unique body, you cannot get healthier.
To become healthier and happier, there is more at play than
you may realize. We all know how important exercise and quality nutrition are to health, but you may not know that stress also plays a significant role on not only your mental health but your gut and overall health as well. This is why I felt it was so important to obtain my three qualifications – true optimal health can only be achieved when you look at mind, body and nutrition. Therefore, I take a ho- listic approach with my clients, which is why I named my company The Holistic Health Approach.
As a holistic nutritionist, I focus on two things – the whole
person and whole foods. Holistic nutrition is not just about the food you put in your mouth. It’s about whole foods, yes, but takes into ac-
• Recognizing and working through emotional eating • Improving digestive health • Normalizing weight • Meal planning • Targeted supplementation
Almost all of these issues are addressed in the 21-Day Holis- tic Detox program I created. This program is meant to detoxify the body from everyday toxins, improve digestion, initiate gut healing, eliminate potential food allergens and assist with weight loss or maintenance.
Part of my work with clients and the public is spreading knowl- edge to help everyone understand what works best for their unique body. Knowledge is power, which is why I give several presentations per year on how to optimize your health. My 21-Day Holistic Detox program is also filled with educational information to help you understand why a detox is needed and give the support you need – instructions, guidance, useful handouts and recipes – to complete the 21 days and succeed well past the detox.
