Poole Athletic Club

Mayors at Junior Presentation: We held our Junior Presentation of Awards at the Wallisdown Liberal Club in December. Mayor of Poole, Councillor Mrs. Lindsay Wilson, plus Deputy Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Edward Coope and his wife, shared the presenting of awards. Apart from the best in their event groups (sprints, endurance, jumps, throws, etc.) there were also trophies for ‘Improver, Endeavour and Newcomer’. Our Disability group’s awards were made by coach Martin Cook of Victoria Education Centre. One of the highlights of the evening was the award to Lindsay Chapman for the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ of 2017: the talented para-biker wore her Invictus Games gold medal, achieved in Toronto in September. The top Club award of ‘Junior Champion’ went to talented thrower, Caitlin B. A well-supported raffl e, with over twenty prizes, helped with the fundraising for new High Jump uprights.

William maintains his form at Liverpool: In the third of the British Cross (-Country) Challenge, at Liverpool in November, William R maintained his winning streak in the u13 boys’ race, beating 123 of the best in Britain and setting him up for the Finals in Loughborough in March. In the u17M race, Ben L fi nished 10th (of

112), producing another excellent country performance, following his Hants XC League victory at Petersfi eld in November.

UK YDL AGM: In Birmingham in November, among the many lively discussions, support was given to the competitive composite teams which participate in this League. It was also agreed to stage only three matches in the Upper age-group in 2018. In this age-group we will be in the same division as the composite of New Forest Juniors and Bournemouth. One of the four Lower age-group matches will be hosted by our composite team, Team Dorset, at Ashdown on June 17th.

League results and thanks: In Hants XC League matches at Petersfi eld and Popham, our most successful teams have been the u15 girls (4th and 5th) and the Veteran Men (4th and 6th).

In the Dorset Sportshall League match 2 at Canford, our best-performing teams were the combined u15 Boys/ Girls (fi rst), the u11 boys (2nd) and the u11 girls (3rd).

Finally, thanks to our website team, who have worked hard to modernise and modify our site. If you are interested in helping us to serve the community, visit: www.pooleac.co.uk or our profi le on www.joininuk.org.
