Councillor Update

Welcome to 2018. Let me be amongst the fi rst to wish everyone, especially all Broadstone residents, a Happy New Year.

By the time you read this January issue of the Link magazine, I expect Christmas will be a happy memory for you. It certainly is my favourite time of year.

As usual, it was a great privilege to be invited once more by the organisers at the Broadstone Chamber of Trade & Commerce (BCTC), to help out with the Broadstone Christmas Parade. It’s a tradition that is in its 49th year. Amazing! We have enjoyed participating and helping out for twelve years. Of course we are looking forward to the 50th anniversary parade in 2018, which I am sure will be very special.

Your Broadstone councillors met with the Poole Mayoress, Councillor Lindsay Wilson, who was guest of honour, as well as our local MP, Michael Tomlinson and other dignitaries who form the judging panel. The winners of the main parade contest was Hoppers Pre-School. Well done to them, throughly deserved! Thanks to everyone who paraded with their group, provided fl oats or played in the marching band. The children had great fun dressing up.

I am sorry that a little disruption to traffi c occurs, but when considering that the parade is for our children to meet Father Christmas and enjoy the start to the Christmas period, it really is a small price to pay. All money collected goes to good causes too, a different one annually.

It was good to see the Santa Specials running again at Poole Park miniature railway. We all are grateful to the Friends of Poole Park. They are the new operator of the train, which is newly painted and the station has been refurbished. It looked a great improvement to the Poole Park street scene, with all passengers enjoying themselves. The attraction will benefi t visitors for many years to come.

Please continue to contact me by letter, phone or email. Or come to my next surgery at the library, from 10am-12noon on Saturday 13th January.
